Products for Professional Users
mAirList Professional Edition
mAirList Professional Edition is a light-weight, full-featured radio automation system for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7. It is targeted at small and medium-sized stations, and for both terrestrial and Internet-based broadcast. It offers features often only found in some unaffordably high-end professional packages.
mAirList was designed to be as flexible and customizable as it gets. It works with standard PC hardware, supports virtually any soundcard and offers various remote control interfaces to studio hardware like broadcast mixers etc. It is thus the ideal solution if you're looking into upgrading your studio with a decent digital automation system while reusing most of your existing expensive studio equipment. mAirList is also very scalable - it can be embedded into a complex networked studio environment or even run from a USB stick on your laptop when you're on the road.
Playout System
The playout part of mAirList consists of the main playlist and one or more players which are used to broadcast the items of the playlist one by one. The signal of each player can be routed freely to any available soundcard. In a usual setup, you would have two or three players, each one connected to a separate channel on your mixing console.
In Live Assist mode, the players are operated manually by the presenter. If you prefer, mAirList assists you by loading vacant players with the next available items and offering convenient features like backtiming calculations, intro time visualization etc.
With a single click, the playlist can be switched into automation mode, making it play the items automatically on one or more of the available players. The powerful event scheduler can be used to e.g. play fixed hourly events like pre-recorded news. Customizable segues will make your station sound as good as it does when it's live.
Cartwall
The integrated cartwall can either be embedded in the main window or run in its own window, e.g. on a second monitor. It features a freely customizable number of small "cart players" which can be used to playback jingles, promos etc. By default, all players are routed to the same sound card, but again, this can be changed with only a few clicks. All players are stackable and can be linked to each other by so-called triggers. For example, when you start a stinger from player 2, you can make the music bed in player 1 fade out at the same time.
Audio Files and Databases
mAirList supports all major audio file types (see the Features page for details). Native file tags (like ID3 tags from MP3 files) are imported whenever possible. If you want it simple, just drag and drop your files into the playlist from Windows Explorer or one of the built-in directory browsers.
mAirList does also have a built-in audio database which can be used to maintain your audio archive and your playlists. The database can either run in "local mode" where all data is conveniently stored in a single file on your playout PC, or in "network mode" using a PostgreSQL database server which can be accessed all across your station network.
Additionally, mAirList can connect to a variety of third-party databases. Some database types are supported out of the box (e.g. iTunes). Any other SQL- or Access-based database can be connected using a custom so-called database script. This makes it easy to integrate mAirList into an existing studio environment with other third-party radio software. For example, if you're already running a studio with an expensive high-end automation system, and you want to set up a second studio using mAirList, you can easily connect it to your existing database.
Remote Control
Remote control is essential for any professional playout system - rather than controlling the players with the keyboard or mouse, the DJ wants to start and stop them as he moves the faders or presses the Start and Stop buttons on his console. The same applies to the cart players for which customized keyboards are available.
mAirList lets you control almost every single bit of the software remotely. There's a wide range of remote control mechanisms available: hotkeys, MIDI, game port or USB joysticks (which turned out to be the cheapest solution when wiring old consoles with analog hot start contacts), to name but a few. Interfaces to the serial command bus of some high-end desks (e.g. Lawo SAS-enabled consoles) are also available.
Customization
Everyone has different ideas of how a radio automation system should work and what it should look like. This is why we made mAirList one of the most customizable automation systems in the world. First of all, there are various configuration options available which control the behaviors of most program features. For example, if you don't want the players to load the next available item in assist mode by themselves, just turn auto-load off. All of these options and settings are managed in a separate configuration utility.
Many people also want to change the way the software looks. All fonts and colors can be freely customized through a so-called skin file. Additionally, you can use a custom layout and move all screen items freely around in the main window.
